Thanks to Bloomsbury for letting me take over their 333sound.com site for the week, it was fun. If you missed the articles, here they are
The Origins of Melody – Nabokov’s Lolita, Barbarella, Boris Vian, Sibelius, Mondo Cane.
The Avant Garde or Nothing – Gainsbourg and Vannier as innovators and a focus on their lost classics.
Initials O.G. – Serge Gainsbourg’s Hip-hop afterlife.
Connan Mockasin – Kiwi Psychedelia and the Ghost of Melody Nelson.
My editor Ally Jane is a also badass chef and put together some recipes for a Gainsbourg listening party, with a nod to Serge’s album The Man with the Cabbage-Head.
Word bookstore in Brooklyn will be hosting a reading group of my book in December. It’s chaired by the writer and editor of the literary website Vol.1 Brooklyn Tobias Carroll. All are welcome.
There’ll be some exciting announcements about the book (which can be bought in paperbook or ebook now in the US), my forthcoming cities book, a return to writing about literature and art and other nonsense to follow.
In the meantime, here’s a Gainsbourg playlist for those of you with Spotify.
Onwards, onwards and ever-downwards.
